Elevators are an indispensable and convenient tool in modern society, but improper use can also bring unpredictable hazards

In June 2025, a parent used a shovel to block the elevator door on the 28th floor, trapping a young child. Lack of safety awareness caused a dangerous situation.

In April 2025, a woman was trapped in an elevator and tried to pull the door to escape. As a result, she fell from the elevator shaft to the basement on the first floor and died on the spot.

In February 2025, a woman jumped in the elevator, causing the elevator to be unable to rise and fall smoothly and stuck in place in an instant. Fortunately, there was no danger to her life.

So what elevator habits may cause danger? In what cases can't you take the elevator? How should you save yourself if you are trapped in the elevator?

1.Don't Jump in the Elevator

There are many safety protection switches on the elevator car. If you jump in the car, the car will tilt severely, which may cause the protection switch to operate and put the elevator into a protection state. Once this happens, the elevator will stop operating in an emergency, causing the passengers to be trapped.

2. Is It Dangerous Ff There Is ASudden Power Outage During Elevator Operation?

If there is a sudden power outage or a power supply line failure during elevator operation, the elevator will automatically stop running and there will be no danger. Because the elevator itself is equipped with electrical and mechanical safety devices, once the power is off, the actuator of the electric body will automatically brake and the elevator cannot run. In addition, if the power supply department has a planned power outage, it will notify in advance, and the elevator may stop running in advance.

3. What Should I Do If the Elevator Suddenly Speeds Up?

The speed of the elevator, whether going up or down, should be within the specified rated speed range and generally will not exceed the speed limit. If it exceeds the speed limit, there is an anti-overspeed device in the elevator control system. At this time, the device will automatically operate to slow down or stop the elevator.

4. Can the Elevator Door Be Pried Open?

The elevator door cannot be pried open from the outside and must be opened with special tools (special tools are mastered by maintenance personnel). Passengers are not allowed to pry open the door, let alone open it, otherwise there is a risk of falling into the shaft.
