Terrifying Escalator Accident: Toddler's Finger Trapped
On August 5, a 2-year-old girl, walking against the flow of people in a shopping mall, had her left middle finger trapped in the gap between escalator steps.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, the girl was wailing in pain, repeatedly shouting, "Mom, Mom..." To extricate the girl as quickly as possible, the firefighters, based on the situation, used tools to pry up the pedals and began the rescue. After intensive treatment, the girl's finger was successfully removed, and the medical staff on site provided emergency treatment.
It's understood that the incident occurred when two children were playing on an escalator and attempted to go to the second floor in the opposite direction. The girl followed the boy onto the escalator and fell due to unstable walking. As the escalator continued to descend, the girl reached the escalator step and was unable to stand up, causing her left middle finger to become lodged in the gap between the steps.
A passing man noticed the situation and immediately pressed the escalator's emergency button. Parents nearby rushed to the scene and called the police.
Young children cannot anticipate danger. In addition to providing adequate supervision, parents should also teach them essential safety knowledge.
These are some things to avoid when riding in an escalator:
1. Do not lean against the side apron of the escalator.
2. Keep hands, feet, or the hem of clothing away from the crevices of the escalator to avoid entrapment.
3. Do not walk or run briskly on the steps, and do not walk against traffic.
4. Do not lean beyond the handrail.
5. Do not insert sharp objects, such as crutches, into gaps or grooves in the escalator.
6. Do not climb on the handrail or inner or outer covers.
7. When exiting the escalator, do not stop at the exit to talk or look around.
If you encounter an escalator accident, how should you respond correctly?
