How to Select the KONE KDL16L Model?

The KONE KDL16L is a permanent magnet synchronous traction machine drive specifically designed for KONE Monospace/MiniSpace elevators. The core selection criteria are matching the drive's continuous output current to the traction machine's rated current, and verifying the voltage, encoder, and load/speed.
I. KDL16L Model and Current Specifications (400V Three-Phase)
The KDL16L is differentiated by its continuous output current, corresponding to different power ranges:

II. Selection Steps (by Priority)

1. Confirm Voltage Rating
The KDL16L is a 400V three-phase input (380–415V, 50/60Hz), compatible with KONE permanent magnet synchronous traction machines (MX series).
It does not support 220V input; for 220V scenarios, other series such as V3F25 must be selected. -
2. Match Traction Machine Current (Most Critical)
Determine the rated current (In) from the traction machine nameplate.
Select the model based on the following formula: Continuous Drive Current ≥ In × 1.1-1.2
Example: Traction machine In=10A → Select 12A; In=13A → Select 14A. -
3. Verify the traction machine model and encoder.
KDL16L is compatible with KONE MX series permanent magnet synchronous traction machines (MX05/MX06/MX10, etc.).
Encoder: Incremental type (TTL/HTL), the corresponding motor type needs to be selected in drive parameter 6_60. -
4. Load and speed matching.
12A: 630–800kg, ≤1.0m/s
14A: 800–1000kg, ≤1.6m/s
18A: 1000–1600kg, ≤1.75m/s
20A/25A: Above 1600kg or high-speed elevators. -
5. Environment and margin.
If altitude is> 1000m or ambient temperature is> 40℃, increase the current by 1 level.
Frequent starts/heavy loads: It is recommended to increase the current by another level.
III. Quick Selection Example
Traction Machine: MX06, Rated Current 11A, Load Capacity 1000kg, Speed 1.6m/s
Calculation: 11A × 1.1 = 12.1A → Select KDL16L 14A
IV. Differences from KDL16R/KDL16S
- KDL16L: No server room/small server room required, integrated drive, compatible with MX synchronous machines.
- KDL16R: Server room required, energy feedback type.
- KDL16S: Compact type, designed for low-power applications.
